Re: Yamaha Charger
Used to leave it plugged in all the time on the old battery set just assumed it was a float charge. Looking for a DPI charger. Glad its not the batteries!
Thanks for your help cgtech. |

Re: Yamaha Charger
New DPI chargers dont do float anymore either. That feature is considered a "energy vampire" by the state of California, so it was eliminated. They took the warning of "as California mandates, the rest soon follows", and dropped it to be able to sell "50 state legal". Thank the commies. Their "old, robust" transformer design style cant keep up with nanny legislation when allowed to "use power all the time" with "float charge", so that feature had to get the axe. I didnt hear it "directly from them", but in a "round-about way". When DPI abandons the "old robust style" of making chargers, they will be just the same as everyone else making "throw-away" chargers that cant be repaired. No one offers a cart/charger from the factory with "float", not if they plan to sell in cali anyway, DPI does do some OEM chargers, and has for many years, so they have to play by the rules. Think that's goofy nonsense, just look into cali's goofy nonsense.
"Float" is basically against cali law, so we have to depend on "it'll restart when it sees the need to" for chargers now. (That "it'll restart when it needs to" story has been sold to us for years, and I dont know of a single charger I trust that claim for, so many say they will & dont). Based on the number of carts that are dead when the "snowbirds" come back to town. Just my opinion. I suppose it sells some batteries (which is actually one of our lowest profit/highest labor offerings). but I'd rather have happy customers. Besides, not buying new batteries this year might mean a performance upgrade instead, which I'd much rather have fun doing. Controllers & "fun parts" are much lighter than several sets of batteries. New batteries only puts a smile on the customers face sometimes, more performance always puts a smile on their face. |
