1999 ezgo 36v help
I am going to look at a 1999 ezgo 36v volt. The batteries were changed 2 years ago and he said they need to be replaced already. He said it does about 14mph normally. When I replace the batteries if they are bad how can I get more torque out of it without converting it to 48v. I have a large hill to go up every time I use it. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1999 ezgo 36v help
Three ways of getting more torque.
1. Higher battery pack voltage. 2. Higher torque motor. 3. Numerically higher final drive ratio. (Shorter tire height or differential gears) #1 gives you both higher torque and higher speed. #2 may reduce speed with higher torque, but there are motors that will increase torque while maintaining speed. #3 Reduces speed while torque increases. Also, any excessive resistance in the high amp cables reduce torque and speed, so all of the thick cables ought to be 4Ga or thicker and the solenoid contacts ought to be rated at 200A or more. Which drive system do you have Series or Sepex? (If there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, it is a Sepex drive) |

Re: 1999 ezgo 36v help
There is no tow/run switch. Its a ezgo txt if that helps. If i need new batteries, should I go with 48v? i am new to this so im kinda clueless. sorry. I know you usually have to change the motor and all to convert to 48v correct?

Quote:
No Run/Tow means it is a series drive. To go to 48V, you have to change the controller and solenoid, plus a 48V battery pack (Typically six 8V batteries, but could do eight 6V if long range is needed.) Stock series motor will run better on 48V. You'll get a 33% increase in both speed and torque. |
