Plastic Filler
Will be painting the body on my G22 soon, but need to do some body work on it first. There are some gouges in areas that I will need to fill in and smooth out. What is a good filler for use on plastic?

Re: Plastic Filler
Thanks!
I'll check at Lowe's or Home Depot for some as I've seen JB Weld both places. |

Re: Plastic Filler
I used Bondo 806 Epoxy bumper repair and it works superbly. You want something flexible such as this or else it will eventually crack and fall out of the spot you repaired. Can be sanded in about 10-15 mins and painted in about 20-30 minutes.

Re: Plastic Filler
I bought some of the bondo bumper repair epoxy and I found it hard to work with. I used it for a minor scrape in back where the bumper rubbed a gouge in body. It stayed too flexible and rubbery to sand easily. I can't imagine trying to feather it out.

Re: Plastic Filler
I like a USC product called Icing. It can be sanded to a feather edge, and adheres well to the golf cart body. It's average priced, but I believe you get what you pay for....
I did use JB Weld to fill holes in the body from the 'Do Not Step' pads. I cut the excess off with a razor blade and then filled the pinholes with Icing. Before: After, (but before wet sanding and buffing...): |

Re: Plastic Filler
I get it at my local PPG store, it's not cheap - but I really like it.

Re: Plastic Filler
24oz tube for $25 from Amazon.
Would this products be good for a filler or would it be limited to thin coats? I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow of the areas I'm going to do repair work on and go from there. |

Re: Plastic Filler
Icing is a polyester glazing putty and also what I use. It is the same concept as the heavier "Bondo" fillers but much thinner so it does not leave pinholes and is easier to sand. It is designed to fill small scratches and previous sand marks from courser grits. There are other companies that make polyester glazing putty also by the way and they are all typically good. USC Icing is also my personal choice like aacorp.
