Default 2007 gas club car precedent

Will be replacing the accelerator cable do to mine seems to be sticking. Once the pedal is pressed and released it does not return the carberator flap or whatever it's called closed. The cable feels as it has some tension sliding in. The cart run great as is but is jerky at low speeds. Now with that being said is there a tip to how I get it hooked onto the pedal. The view is blocked by the black plastic piece.
