36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
I have what I think to be a 94 model 36volt club car with a curtis wright 1204 controler. No serial number on the cart. It is a solid state controller. It does not have resistors. I paid a local cart company to test it and was told my controller was out so i bought one from them but still having problems. The cart wouldnt move at all before. Now i have it moving in forward but will not go in reverse. I hear a click in the solenoid but that is it. I am at a loss. I load tested batteries. I replaced the forward reverse switch. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have checked all wires and connections. I have also read all over the the forum looking but havent had any luck. A lot of the post just end with no results or they do not explain what the fix was.
I checked voltage across the big post on solenoid. In forward it goes us and slowly drops once wheels are spinning in forward. In reverse it the solenoid clicks but nothing. It will show a little bit of power but zeros out. I have spent a lot of time and money on this I don’t post much on any forum unless I really need to. I have read a lot on this please help. I am trying to get this running so I can sell it to buy batteries and a back seat for my ez go. There are only 3 things I can think it might be. 1) Micro switch in potentiometer not sure exactly what it does but it clicks and seems to be working fine. 2) Solenoid is sticking? 3) Or the new controller is bad?KRAZYKARL Posts: 2 Joined: Tue Oct 04, 2011 7:18 pm Private message |

Re: 36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
Hey Karl!
I will start with admitting that I'm not familiar with your cart but from what you posted I can tell you this much: If you have a traditional lever style F&R swithch then: The controller can not be the cause of no reverse.(since it moves forward) The solenoid can not be the cause. (since it moves forward) What you described is you checked voltage drop across the contacts of the solenoid. The less voltage drop the better. But that has nothing to do with your problem. The F&R switch is responsible for swapping around two of the motor connections for the motor so if it is not hooked up correctly (by previous owner or who ever) then it will not work correctly. Or micro switches and their hookups! They can also click but not work! That is the area I would focus my diagnostics around! Like I said in the beginning I am assuming you have a series cart so if that's not the case then I'm totally off! Can you post pictures of the wiring under the seat? That will help when someone experienced with your cart runs accross this thread they can take a peek at it! Barna |

Re: 36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
Anyone know if the resistor 5.1 x ohms on the black wire would have anything to do with it not reversing polarity or kicking the solenoid in? I took the resistor out. I am wondering it it is sending to much power to the solenoid. I have gone over the diagram several times. Its the 36 volt 89-03 solid state controller.

up in the stickies there are wiring diagrams for the cart........print one out and go over everything have you tried swapping cables at the F&R to see if cart will go in reverse but not forward?..................................

i have gone over the diagram several times and everything looks to be correct. i swapped the wires and with the lever in forward it will go in reverse with the wires swaped

Re: 36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
I can change the wires on the forward reverse switch and get the tires to go in reverse but the lever is in forward so i know the reverse works it just wont do it when it is in reverse.
I just put different batteries in it to see it that would work but it is still going in forward and not reverse. new forward reverse switch. the only thing i can think is maybe the in line resistor on the black wire from the v glide or potentiometer is sending to much power and it will not go in reverse? i hear one click at the solenoid and thats it when the cart is in reverse. |

Re: 36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
This is a series cart. It looks to me like a TXT with a Marathon controller and controller mount? But it should still work. The controller works.
The solenoid works. I don't know what you have for a throttle input (marathon was 0-5k and TXT is ITS) but if it works in one direction it should work in the other...... in a series cart the directional switching is done in the rotary F&R switch. Concentrate your problem search in the F&R switch contacts and micro switch area ..... |

Re: 36 volt club car no reverse solid state controller
can you tell me what the 3rd micro with the white and black wire from the V glide is for? Might be a dumb question but i dont understand its purpose. Looks to be spliced and run from the v glide and on to the controler. How should the black and white wire be spliced?
