Default Yamaha Battery Charger

I have a Yamaha 2 passenger golf cart with 6 new Trojan 8 volt batteries. I will not be using the cart from May – Dec in Palm Desert and wonder if I should buy a maintenance “trickle” charger to leave plugged in?

It come with a Yamaha 48 Volt Multi Stage Battery Charger / Maintainer JW9 82107-03 and not sure if this unit can maintain the batteries when in storage?

Yes - you should make sure that you leave the batteries on a trickle charger. My Yamaha charger doesn't do that but maybe some do. There are some good ones out there that you can buy for 48V. One that I know is good is made by "Battery Tender". I use these on my cars when I leave them for an extended period of time but they make one for golf carts too.

I think my neighbors problem may be the charger. He finally got the charger to charge, don't know if it was full charged and he took it it for a ride today. I doubt it was full charged as I had warned him that he needed to let it full charge, knowing him, he didn't. That's another story.

I haven't had another chance to look at at it but he's telling me now the charger doesn't show a light now, green or red. I'm gonna look at it later this afternoon or evening.
