Help! Batteries Draining Fast after Stock to High Speed Motor Swap
I have a 2001 club car DS 48 volt and after swapping stock motor to high speed D&D motor from Golf Cart Kings my batteries drained VERY fast! The batteries were completely charged and I only made it about 1-1.5 miles before I noticed the performance was quickly declining. Right after the motor swap everything felt great, I was very happy. I’m not to sure what to check or what... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Batteries = 2 gauge / 1.5 years old, Trojan HD solenoid HD forward/reverse switch Stock Curtis controller |

Here's a wild guess. Check that you put the little red charger wire back on the main B+ battery terminal. There should be two wires a big one and a little one.

They’re there. I don’t know what it is but it’s not that. It’s frustrating.

Re: Help! Batteries Draining Fast after Stock to High Speed Motor Swap
You are on to a HS motor now, meaning more amps under load. If you want to ensure your pack is healthy, take your DVM and check the pack before you leave 9should be 50+ volts). Leave it hooked up and lay it on your seat. Go for your ride and monitor the voltages when you accelerate and ride. You could have one bad cell in one battery that is revealing itself during the voltage drop.
The truth will be found in the voltage.... |

That makes sense. So if I find 1 bad battery, should I be able to just replace it and be good? Thank you very much for your input.

Re: Help! Batteries Draining Fast after Stock to High Speed Motor Swap
I’ve read where it’s not good to replace only 1 out of the 6 batteries but it seems like a large expense considering they’re only 2 years old. Thoughts?
This is with assumption that the battery is the culprit. I will be testing tonight after work. |

Re: Help! Batteries Draining Fast after Stock to High Speed Motor Swap
Yes, if your pack was shot it would be a waste to replace one battery. But a new battery in a 2 year old pack is not a must. Just get a good used one and when they all are exhausted, replace the whole pack....

Re: Help! Batteries Draining Fast after Stock to High Speed Motor Swap
Well, the problem ended up being the chargers wasn't charging the batteries correctly... I bought the MODZ 48 volt charger and haven't had any issues at all!
