Make sure new tie rod end screws in at least as far as the diameter of the shaft when you do decide to replace it.
Lucky it did’nt happen at speed 😊
Yeah, I am glad it didn't happen at speed. I am also glad it didn't happen in the woods somewhere!

It definitely didn't strip out because of the depth the ends were threaded, in fact neither part looks at all damaged. The tie rod ends were nearly all the way threaded into the rod, maybe 1/2" of threads left. That's why this seems so odd, as if one component is the wrong size.

Possibly 1/2 is from a different cart manufacturer? In any event, I'd just get a whole new one.

Yeah, that's the plan ultimately. I just welded the jam nut on the one I have. The only concern I have in ordering a new one is that I don't know if this is an aftermarket tie rod specific to the drop axle lift. I am trying to find the factory specs to make sure I have the right length.

Post a pic of the drop axle. I have a 95 Medalist and installed a drop axle with the stock tie rods.

Here's a couple pics. The "ST" on the spindle arms are the only demarcation I can see.

There are 2 series of numbers on the tie rod end. The first I can make out clearly H279AI0. The second is a bit obfuscated but I think it's 1605R.

Looks like the axle has been welded on the passenger side? Looks to be butted together. Seems it might be worth scabbing a plate over the weld on front & back, if there’s room for such. Just in case it’s a little weak next to the weld.

Haha! You're on the same wavelength. Since I had the welder, grinder, cutoff saw, etc out, I welded a piece of 1/4" plate on either side. I have had a receiver hitch to install for a couple weeks that required some metal fabrication to attach it to the cart frame and land it under the back step. I just finished the sanding and painting of the parts I'll no longer have access to once its all welded in place. I have everything cut and prepped, just waiting on the rattle can paint to dry enough to weld it all up.

It appears that the tie rod repair is holding well.
