Can you send the switch back to me for repair or replacement? My shipping address is here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/contact.html
Mark the box RMA 118059 and include a slip with your purchase name & return address.
We will get this right back to you.

The tricky part is that it was intermittent. It went into reverse sometimes because of the dead spot. The thing that was really confusing was when I tested the reverse on one occasion when I changed the wiring, it made contact that time so I eliminated the switch...which was an incorrect conclusion.

Anyway - I learned something about switches this time around. Thank you!

Another thing that is a characteristic of this type of failure of the switch:

I absolutely verified the dead spot. Reverse simply does not work due to it not passing current in the full R position at the stop.

But here is the odd thing: continuity with an ohm meter shows contact in that spot.

So that tells me that it can pass voltage (like the small, low-current voltage from the meter), but it acts like an open circuit when you try to use it to drive the motor.

Food for thought.

That is kind of like having surface voltage on your batteries, but the cart will not drive.

This is why continuity or resistance tests on a dead circuit often give incorrect results. A bad connection can show little or no resistance on a meter, but there is not enough contact to handle the current demand when the circuit is live and trying to work.
A voltage test on a live circuit will tell you more about the condition and resistance in the circuit. If there is a poor connection, the voltage will be much lower beyond that point.

Thanks!

I will send it out to you on Monday. So far everything is working OK with the original switch and the entire system is working great, but I think the stock switch might heat up too much in the long run so it will be good to get the HD switch in there.

Thanks - I got it but I will have to wait until next weekend to install it when I get up there again.

Did you get my question about the Alltrax converter? My neighbor is thinking about upgrading his cart like I just did but he wants to keep using the 36 volt batteries until they die, but then buy 48 volt batteries and upgrade using the same controller.

Can the Alltrax be reprogrammed to switch from 36 to 48 volts?

If it is an SR model Alltrax states:
SR48xxx: 12-48V Nominal Battery Pack Voltage, 62VDC Max

My SR states 24-48 VDC on the side placard.

All of the Alltrax controllers can be programmed to run on 36 volts now & 48 volts later.
