ParCar Eating Solenoids
1983 G4s w/ 5 solenoid ignition, when running continuously on mixed terrain say a couple minute ride the #1 solenoid (one with positive coming from battery) gets extremely hot and burns out.
Short little trips no problem, just started happening recently, it doesn't stop running, it just won't start, pop in a new solenoid and away it goes. What could it be? |

Re: ParCar Eating Solenoids
There are two types of solenoids; regular ones and "continuous duty" ones. The regular ones are only meant to activate during starting and turn off once an engine is running. The continuous duty ones are meant to carry current the entire time the engine is running. Obviously, the continuous duty ones are a bit more hardy.
Make sure you are using continuous duty solenoids. If that doesn't solve the problem then make sure you are using a high quality, name brand solenoid as the cheap ones burn out. |

Re: ParCar Eating Solenoids
Thanks for the input,
Was attempting to use lawn mower solenoid but what you said makes perfect sense. Guess I will dig deeper in pocket. |
