Cool half way down on the pedal the motor dies

i don't know what year it is. it's an older 4 wheel model with rear seat. i just put in new batteries for this 36V system. In reverse it does fine but in forward it dies about half way in on the pedal. i have to release the pedal all the way before it will go again. From the pedal it has mech. linkage back to a small box with a micro switch on top (potentiometer?). Any help will be greatly appreciated!

What model do you have? What electronics? Pot box? Wiper Arm style? Controller?

Do you have an ohm meter? If so in your 3rd picture just underneath the red battery cable you will see your controller. The white and black wire that are bundled together come from your potentiometer. Disconnect these from the controller and hook up your leads from your ohm meter to these wires. With the cart turned off, you should see 0 ohms. Slowly depress the accelerator and see if you have a nice steady increase as the numbers on the meter go up. With the accelerator fully depressed you should not see any reading above 5500.

will do. i checked the volts across all the bateries and it was low (30) so i cleaned all the battery connections and the connections to the controller and now reading 37v. thats good. odd thing about this is that is works fine in reverse. i discovered that this is a 91 model. does the controller cut off below a certain voltage? and if so is that voltage above what reverse needs? i'm going to let it charge for a while and the check the pot and clean the rest of the connections ( motor, pot ect.). in forward with the cart jacked up, and a volt meter hooked up it seems to cut off at around 27v.

ok, my meter is digital so seeing a swing on the pot is difficult. i did this a few times to check for accuracy and i got a swing from 0 to 7.33K and right after 4K it dropped to 0 and then back up and continued the swing up to 7.33k. it was a quick drop too. was like 4.0, 0, 4.2, 4.6, ect.
