Oil Temperature Gauge 23 Briggs
I am trying to finish up my dash board and I want to have an oil temperature gauge on my 23 hp Briggs that I don’t have yet. I am not sure what options I have. This is the gauge I want to use but will it work on this engine?
It’s about half way down on the page (Blue 2-1/16" Oil Temp Gauge 280-A022E351Y) http://www.jegs.com/p/Cyberdyne/759759/10002/-1 |

Re: Oil Temperature Gauge 23 Briggs
I dont see why not, it comes with the sensor in the kit, so you should be good to go, just verify the thread pitch of the sensor so that you can put it in the oil drain plug of the engine, or wherever you think you can put it. I think that engine has 2 oil drains on each side of the block, no?
Im sure you can get an adaptor to make it fit into the plug hole. Thats if it doesnt already come with it. I installed a analoge gauge on my 12hp lawn tractor a long long time ago, and the kit came with all the adaptors. It was made from the same company i think Btw those gauges are sharp looking!. |

Re: Oil Temperature Gauge 23 Briggs
My engine runs anywhere from 145 to 190 depending how long I set at idle. What should the normal engine oil temperature for my 23hp briggs and Stratton?
Thanks! |

Re: Oil Temperature Gauge 23 Briggs
That doesn't sound too bad for an air-cooled engine... Looks like it's oil cooler is doing it's job.. The 5.4L V8 in my F150 will have oil temps ranging from 185 to 210 depending on speed and load..

Re: Oil Temperature Gauge 23 Briggs
I would be worried after 230, more about it trending that high and the accuracy of the guage. I know on the old VW bugs anything above 250-260 was problems, but with synthetic oil now even that temp could probably be tolerated.
