Brake Cables To Short

Finished installing the rear lift yesterday and now my brake cables are streched to the max. There isnt even enough slack to hang or tie them up like they were before. I can loosen the tension of the cable itself but the outer sheathing is fixed at both ends. Now they come down on a 45 degree angle from the frame to the rearend and are banjo string tight.

Any solutions?

Who sells them longer? All the ones I found are OEM length.

It sounds so easier to buy longer cables. You need to contact a supplier and tell them what car you have, tell them your cables are too short.

The last club car I had a problem with I ended up having to put the old style brake cable holder on. Then I used an EZ-GO brake cable and had to make some steel extenders.

I would try calling the person who sold you the lift and ask their reccomendations.

I had the same situation with my 98 48V...
when I added the 6" lift the brake cables were / are pretty tight!

First off... I took off the cable hangers and tossed them...
they're better, but the passenger side is still pretty tight!
at the time, I saw somewhere... (BU)
where there is a brake cable extention kit for lifted CC electric carts,
But... being where they were from, I decided that I wouldn't get them.

Check with Tom @ CPP, or Mike @ Mike's Motor Toys (BGW sponsors) and see if they can find them for you!

I did find the cable extension kit from a seller on Ebay but the picture deosnt look like it has the same ends as mine so I'm waiting for a reply to see if they do. Should those have different ends I will try one of the sponsers

lifted my 2004 ezgo and they were too short also on one side so i put the longer one on the one side and measured the other and added some lenght to it and got on ebay and got one that fit for about 12.00 bucks hopes this helps

it seems like i remember reading somewhere about swapping teh backing plates right to left and turning them over. this would put things at the proper height.

But i think you have hydraulic main brakes? that was for the cable only systems. Sorry I don't remember where or a link though:(

So I call the company I bought the lift kit from and they forwarded my information to the company that actually makes the lifts and we play phone tag for about 3 days. Finally, yesterday I reach him and here is what he says to do.

Loosen the front U-bolts on each side that straddles the leaf spring and tighten the crap out of the rear U-bolts so it twists the rear end up, which will give you some slack.
I told him "twisting the rear end like that will put a major bind on the leaf spring and also make the ride much stiffer". I also told him "I need 2-3" more slack to be able to tie the cables out of the way and that your suggested rig job wouldnt give me that much slack".
He said you wont need to tie them out of the way and the only time I would have an issue is if I crawled over something like a log.
I said "what good is a 6" lift if I'm not really gaining any clearance at all due to the cables hanging".
He says trust me we do it here all the time.
I said "sorry but I'm not about to put that much stress on my rearend and will come up with a REAL fix on my own.

Anyways I think I have a solution:
The new club car brake cables are 3" long but they only have a clasp at one end (mine have them at both ends) so I'm going to cut a slot in one of mine to get it off, slide it on the new cable and then put a spot weld over the slot so it cant come off. I'll let you know how it works

As a business, I feel responsible for the products I sell, I would raise a little more noise at the person who sold you a crappy product.
