fuel pump

i think my fuel pump on my 90 g8 is going bad. it will run but i have to pull out the choke. has anyone ever used an electric pump? NAPA has one that runs 1 1/2 to 3 lbs pressure. would that work if hooked up so it would only run when pedal is pushed? thanks for any help.

Yep, that should work. Why not rebuild or replace what you have?

isnt the stock pump vaccum operated? i thought an electric one would be better & a little cheaper. also , i dont know a thing about these carts. if its a 582 cu. in. big block chevy , no problem, but these carts frighten me.

LOL!! Don't be frightened!!

The stock pump works on a pulse, push / pull, very simple. Rebuild is easy with a kit.

I got the high volume pump and its really easy to replace heard it lasts so we'll see!!

If you have to pull the choke out to keep it running then I would pull the carb and clean it paying close attention to the high speed jet and circuit.
Fuel pump is for getting fuel to the carb which it is doing.
Air draws fuel from carb, if jets are clogged, choke will force more vacume to draw fuel....clean carb.

Thanks Crash, well put. I'll only add...Check the fuel pump first, take the line off the carb and crank the engine over. It wont "Shoot" gas all over, it's low pressure, but it will tell you if it is working, and if not..something before the carb, maybe even a bad fuel filter. Just a thought. Dave

Most of these carts only want about 1 pound of fuel pressure. Anymore will force the float open ...... You can use an ezgo microswitch ( the one with a nice roller on the lever) mounted on the frame touching linkage to activate an electric pump. But I honestly think stock is better....

I still say leave the stock pump and clean the carb, I'm all about letting the factory R&D teams to the hard work.
