Default Alternate coil for a 1990 Ezgo gas 2 stroke cart

Weak spark, runs then shuts down.
Won't restart.
Tested coil with 12V jumper wire and new plug.
Barely visible spark.
Plug then fouls with fuel. Which is fresh non ethanol with 40:1 mix.
Recommendations for a less than $110 new coil. ??
Automotive type usable of the same ohms?
Can remote mount, rather than on engine?
Questions : [ new to gas carts ]
1. How is coil triggered, by points or electronic module.?
Where located ?
Can cart be wired, temporarily, to run in neutral ?
For diagnostic purposes? Like disconnect a safety switch ?
Is there a recommended fuel pressure. ?
Have a cube electric pump installed by former owner.
I believe it is 2-4 psi.
TIA.

Oh, I have so many questions, but first an answer. Neutral on a 2 stroke cart is lifting the real wheels off of the ground, or removing the drive belt.

Now for questions.
Why are you running a 40:1 mix? That is only for newly rebuilt, and new engines.

Was this engine just rebuilt?
Have you ever seen the cart run, and drive before?

Electric fuel pumps are usually installed by amateurs that can't figure out why the original pump isn't working. I'll tell you why it wasn't working. The possibilities are ripped diaphragms in the pump, clogged pump, and engine vacuum leak usually caused by bad crankshaft seals.

I use a $15 round coil from Amazon on mine.
The spark trigger is a magnetic pickup called a pulsar coil under the flywheel. You will see red, and blue wires leading from the engine to the ignitor box. Those are the pulsar wires.
You might want to read this thread for future reference down the road. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...3pg-carts.html

Your engine is a 3pg.

If this is a fresh rebuild that has never run, you will need to check the piston. If it's in backwards, 2 square ports will be visible in the side of the piston when viewed through the exhaust port.

You should also check compression. 120psi is new. 100 psi is acceptable.

Thanks for the reply.
Ok , raise the rear wheels on a jack to diagnose it.
40:1 mix because previous owner recommended same.
The Oil injection is not working / disconnected.
Engine not rebuilt, but it does run ok, when it does fire up.
Thanks for the thread link , I am used to magnetic pickups in my race engines.
I will see if the thread gives me some proper wiring connections for another coil to try as a temp measure. Or maybe permanent.
Do you have a link for the coil you use?
Thanks again for the help.

Check the conversion to HEI thread in the stickys.

I did it to my 91 2 stroke and it fired up after sitting 3 years. In hindsight I think I just needed to ground the old ignitor properly, but it's done now and running.

If the previous owner was running that much oil for a long time, you could have a clogged muffler. Loosen the pipe at the muffler to see if it runs longer.

Now that I'm in front of a computer, it's easier to type.
I looked all over for the specs, but couldn't find them. I want to say that the fuel pressure should be a pound, or less.
Many people have caused problems with electric fuel pumps by overpowering the carburetor float.

You are fouling with unburned fuel.
You are also running a heavy break in oil mixture.
Normal mix is 128:1.
I would buy a real vacuum operated fuel pump, change the plug, and clean the exhaust.
Look up muffler barbecue for that.

Your ignition problem may be a symptom, and not a cause.

I will look around. I have a 3pg manual somewhere.

This is a hard way to get the manual, but it's all there. https://app.box.com/s/3habgxrtgz
You will be most interested in chapters 11, and 12. Chapter 12 explains the differences in pumps by year. Yours should be a remote mounted pump with a rubber pulse line. When the other guy installed the electric pump, he should have plugged the hole in the crankcase.

I cleaned the cart, noted where the fuel pump is a and have ordered a fuel pump and carburetor as the throttle shaft on mine wobbles around at least 1/8" .
The oil injection tank is there and OK , but just has a plugged hose out the bottom.
There is a small plastic line to the carb with nothing attached to it.
Obviously I am missing the injection pump.
I need to source a one to get the system back to the way it was designed to be.
If anyone has a used one to offer, or a source.
Also need new brake shoes as well, now that the cart at least runs.
No brakes !!
Finally, is there a pinion shaft engagement adjustment for the steering box?
TIA , again, for any help offered.

The old owner just disabled the oil pump as they appear to fail and your only notice is a seized engine. Mix 128 -1 (1 oz oil per gallon of gas)

You should leave it but ensure both she's are plugged

If it was me, I would not use the oil pump. The hose leading to the intake manifold needs to be airtight.
