Chargery BMS16
I'm just curious if anyone is currently using this BMS. My question is about the current sensor. The wiring diagram shows the load going through the sensor and that it will handle 300a but without knowing its actual size I'm wondering if my 2 ga. cable is going to go thru it. The photo on the web site may be misleading me so I was hoping someone had installed this unit and could give me a little more information about it.

I saw that unit as well but its 3x the cost of the smaller one. The smaller BMS 16 uses a current sensor instead of a shunt. Is this one working well for you?

My mistake. I didn't know they offered a different bms. Its expensive for sure but seems to be working well. I have the charger as well and that is working great. Email Jason from the website. He usually responsed quickly when up in china.

Just checked out the BMS 16. Nice little all in one unit. My only concern would be the the BMS unit has to be close battery as all the battery wires need to be plugged in to it. My screen is mounted near my steering wheel so I can see battery status and amps drawn. Where that unit i would think needs to be mounted on the battery pack. Although if its cheaper that might be a great option and its easy to lift the seat and check the battery life.

I have the 16 but haven't installed it yet. Planning on mounting beside the battery under the seat. I figure the volt meter on the dash is good enough for me to know when I am getting low on charge.

I would think you would be fine with this setup. Is your low end voltage set up to cut power from your key should your charge drop below your set low end volts?

I set the Alltrax to cutoff at 45.5v (3.25vpc) I put it that high because I know voltage drops very quickly after a certain point and I wanted to protect the cells.
From what I understand most people with Chevy Volt cells have the BMS cutoff at 3v, some at 2.75v. I hear the cells will brick at 2.5v. Until I hear from someone telling me a better way, I plan to charge to 4.1vpc (90%) and discharge to 3.25vpc (no idea what %) and should have a long life lithium pack. |

DaveTM, percentage of SOC is not the same as percentage of voltage.
A lithium cell does not go from 0v-4.2v so 50% SOC is not 50% of the voltage at 100% SOC. The SOC graph of Lithium is also not linear, it has a knee and drops pretty quickly at the end of the SOC, so the voltage will drop a lot faster on the last 10-20%SOC. |
