94 DS 36V Short Charging
The charger on my 94 DS has recently started turning off before the batteries are fully charged - usually after about 2 hours instead of the 8-10 like it used to do. The batteries are 3 year old Trojans and the charger is a 1 year old Lester. After charging this morning the batteries averaged 6.34 volts. This battery/charger combination worked normally until until this problem started. Any idea would be appreciated.

True, but they used to charge up to around 6.45 volts. The cart runs well after the charger stops but it seems to need to be charged more often.

Please tell me you don't let it sit overnight without charging.

Re: 94 DS 36V Short Chargig
One would need to watch or record the peak voltage during the charge cycle to make certain if the charger is short charging voltage wize or not. During the finish/equalization charge voltage may rise as high as 48.6 or even a tad higher.
Considering that the batteries are 3 years old they may be showing signs of deterioration but 6.34 volts measured at least 12 hours after the charger finishes is roughly 95 % SOC and considered good for their age... Shutting off after only a matter of a few hours on the charger is also a bit indicative of batteries that are declining. I would if you are not already doing so keep them on the charger ANYTIME the cart is not in MOTION as this is key to long battery life... |

3 year old batteries.....That maybe all they are going to charge up too. That whole percent of charge means nothing as the batteries get older. They loose capacity, its what happens. Older batteries charge up faster than newer batteries

To me a fast charge indicates a bad battery. Measure all the individual battery voltages and see if any are out of line.
