Default Painting EZGO

I have an old ezgo (Here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...ler-xi835s.jpg )

I want to paint it, But I have never painted anything metal before... What should I do?

How can i get the surface smooth for paint?

Should I use spray paint??
Help!

I guess the question is what exactly kind if finished product are you looking for and what kind of shape is the existing paint in, also how will you be painting it, spray gun, rattle can? Give me some more specifics and I will gladly guide you through it

Thanks Master, Its diamond plate on the sides, which is in real good condition.. But up top it is smooth (Smooth meaning not diamond plate) metal that has some nicks in it, I already painted the diamond plate and it looks great But I am skeptical on painting the top part because it is so scratched up

I am using spray Paint.

(Although I am really interested in getting body painting kit!)

Also, I noticed you live in Marysville, I live in Arlington!

So if it is pretty scratched up I would go with spraying some sandable primer on it first, about 3 or 4 good coats should do it. Then sand it down with about 600 grit trying not to break through the primer, if you do break through reprime that area and sand again. Then wipe it down with some wax and grease remover, wipe with a tack cloth and you are ready for paint.
When applying you're paint "if you are using a rattle can" start with a couple light coats and then put it on heavy after that untill hiding of the primer is achieved and you get you're desired color. You then can put on clear coat if you like but make sure you use the same type of paint :ie acrylic enamel, lacquer, etc. You should be able to get all the painting supplies at NAPA in Arlington, at least they used to carry painting stuff talk to Charles if he is still there.
As for the steering wheel just scuff it whith some maroon Scotchbrite and then spray adhesion promoter on it then apply you're color after that. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok after you just read all that I noticed I forgot something, you need to scuff up the body before spraying primer, the maroon Scotchbrite should work fine.

You can get that at NAPA also, it is kind of like what is on the back of a kitchen sponge used to scrub off things that are stuck on real good. It comes in sheets like sandpaper.

Well I painted the cart and it looks decent with just spray paint (Or a rattle can, hah) but I still need to fix the steering wheel so I will pick up some scotchbrite and sand off all the old paint/gunk.
Do I need to use adhesion promoter? Or can I just spray paint it after the scotchbrite sand down?

Thanks
