Tired of the flat black paint already

This summer I did a total rebuild on a TXT and went with rattle can paint because honestly I was intimidated by basecoat/clearcoat. I spent a lot of time on here reading a ton of threads about it but ultimately decided to go with flat black because I was scared I would screw it up.

I did follow the prep process that master66 provided on the sticky and the rattle can paint is holding up well but I want to try my hand at laying on some quality paint from a local shop.

I have one question before I start -
Do I need to start over from the beginning of the prep process? Specifically do I need to scuff the flat black and use adhesion promoter again before painting?

You will not need adhesion promoter unless you sand thru paint, if you do spot spray promoter on sand thru.
You will need to reprime before you paint.
The guys at my local paint shop are very helpful.
Tell the guys at your shop what you are doing and you can pick up some good advice.

Thanks mud dog. I’m planning on going to the local paint shop when I get a day off of work. You think a quart will be enough?

Yes, that will be plenty.
If you are buying 2k, get 1 pint of paint and 1 pint of hardener.

I’m sorry but what is 2K ? Did a quick google search on it. I’m planning on going base/clear. The 2K is for single stage correct?

2K is the type of primer You're going to want to use to cover up and seal that black rattlecan paint and ensure Your base/clear has something to properly adhere to. We use 2k under both single-stage as well as base-clear, base-midcoat-clear, etc ...

Thanks Brew. I’ll definitely use 2K then. Will i need to sand the 2K before laying the basecoat on?

2k is 2 part paint. 1 part paint and 1 part hardener.
You mix before you spray.
If you like your primer coat you can paint after flashing or you can sand and then paint.

Ok I see. So if it looks good, I can lay the paint on 15-20 mins after the 2K?
