Default Custom Metallic Flake

I didnt want to hijack "Custom Carts" new paint job thread below. That pink/red pearl looks awesome!

But i just wanted to show everyone the new flake that im gonna be trying out soon. I know we all like some eye candy.

This one goes from a dark metallic forest green to a dark metallic blue.

It was an overcast day, and its just painted on a peice of card stock, but in the sun its awesome

Monster - have you shot that on your cart yet? How difficult is it to get that paint to lay properly?

My cart?, no i still havent decided what to do on that thing for paint. Once you get diggin through all the colour chips, and catalogues, your mind can go astray and you cant make a decision. I have narrowed it down to 10 different colors, and i still havent thought about what to do for flames, tribals, and patterns.

That paint colour above was actualy for a quick job i did, a guy wanted to have his PC case painted with that. And im sorry, i dont have any pics of the final result. The case looked immaculate, but the day before i finished it, i forgot my digi cams at the cottage.

To paint with flake, it can be both an eazy and hard task. It really all depends on what size of flake you want. in that pic, its a med size flake. The reason this is a concern is because usually, you mix the flake in with your first coat of clear. And for a flake that large to come out of the gun you typpicaly need a larger tipped gun. It can range from 1.4-1.7mm depending on flake size. Now the downside to a larger tip is, how nice your clear finish will be. I tend to stay in the 1.2-1.4 tip size in typpical clear jobs (not for flake) because the smaller your tip, the more fine the spray, the more nicer your clear comes out/ the more glossy it looks, and the less time you need to spend buffing and polishing to get a showroom shine.

But once you get a hang of it, you can get immaculate clear jobs while using larger guns, you just gotta play around and practise

The flake in that pic is really the max size you would want to go, nowadays super large flakes are not very popular because it kinda brings that "1970's-80 bass boat look" if you catch what i mean. The most popular treatments today are pearls, chameleon pearls, and small to mid sized flop flakes (a type of flake that has small to mid sized flakes in one batch that give it more depth and shine)
