Default 2000 DC 48 Series- getting batteries and cables need suggestion

New to me 2000 DS 48 Series.
It has no batteries or cables. I am getting new batteries, a new charger, and cables.

Should I go ahead and get heavier gauge cables? I may want to upgrade the controller and the motor later on, is there a disadvantage to getting the bigger cables now? What gauge should I get? 4ga?

Any other suggestions what I should do at this stage of my project would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely get heavier cables to start with. The extra cost is minimal at this point. Even with no upgrade, heavier cables are better for you and your cart.

Walmart has #4 cables in their battery department. Obviously not expensive.

Oh and unless you are going to do an extreme upgrade 4 gauge would be fine!!

What cartrader said..... But if you are not sure what you are going to do. Personally I would go with #2, that way you should be covered up to a 600 or 700A controller. Who knows you may want to pull stumps with it. If you do go #2 the only obstacle I know is you may have to get a little creative passing through the OBC.
Wish I had a 4 speed lol

Those cables are NO GOOD for golf cart use!! Need better cable wires like those from welders!! Make your own or get them from sponsors on here. 4 gauge welding cable can be purchased on Ebay if you decide to make your own. There are some premade sets there too.

As CT said don't use Walmart cables. Go online and get 4ga welding cable. And good cable ends too.

They are made for a 12v automotive application, not a golf cart.

Pretty sure its all about strand count and jacket.
