Correct. Did is the magnet damaged or is it the sensor?

Looks like both maybe? Not sure what this was supposed to look like.

There is a round magnet that goes in the end of the armature shaft. (missing in your photo) Looks like parts of it might be in the sensor. Never seen one get beat up like that. Are you sure that didn't happen removing the motor from the cart?

I doubt it happened removing the motor. There is a screw that was removed in the photo which had a small gear under it which I assume holds the magnet on. That was in there but there was no magnet attached just a bunch of pieces in there. It looks like it spun for a while with the debris in there (which makes sense because we had a short drive home at 4 MPH after it happened) so while it is possible it really seems like to me that happened while it was in the cart and hopefully was the cause of the noise. I am going to mount the motor back in there with all of that off just to see if that eliminated the noise and verify that the only problem I have left is the speed sensor.

It's much easier to reinstall the magnet and speed sensor with the motor removed from the cart. Not lots of working space between the end of the motor and the frame.

Replaced the speed sensor, everything is back to normal now.

Sucks that a speed sensor costs over 1/6th of what the motor cost, and that it failed so suddenly, but at least I am up and running again.
