Default Club Cart DS 36 volt Resistor Project Cart

First off, thank you for a great forum and resource.

I have a mid 90's resistor style CC DS 36v.

I want to build it over time.

Right now it has dead batteries, so I would like to start by making it 48 volts.

It looks like I will need a 48v Solenoid, 48v charger with auto shut off, and a set of 8 volt batteries. (Please chime in if you have suggestions or know of problems with that game plan). It also seems that I will want to stay away from lower acceleration and spend most of my time at wide open or coasting when running.

Once i get everything running, I will progressively upgrade to a solid state controller, hotter motor, rear seats, new vinyl, paint, lift kit, wheels, tires, stereo etc. etc.

Again thanks for the resource. Let me know if you have any suggestions, parts, advice etc.

Looking forward to the project.

A resistor cart and 48 volts are not compatible. You will melt down the electrical components, start a fire, or even worse, what happened to me- mine got stuck in full throttle because the V-glide melted. Goodbye to the brick post by the driveway.

Get one of ScottyBs conversion kits. You won’t regret it.

I did run 48 volts on a 36 volt cart for a short period. However I already had a ScottyB kit on the way, it was the best decision. The throttle response, cart run time, drive-ability, and reliability are worth the investment.

Yep. The guys above have educated me as well. Thought about doing the same thing.

If you are going to 48v, go to a controller.

Hmm... Was hoping to be able to go 48v resistor for a while and then spring for the solid state controller etc later. Seems like it would do ok for a few months if all of the connections/wire gauge etc. were clean and proper sizes.

Maybe not though.. thanks for the feedback. Glad that I asked

My buddy did this conversion on his girlfriends cart has been fine for over a year. Did have couple issues with the f-n-r switch at first and solenoid. Just make sure your brushes in the vglide r good. Replace the nicroswitches and consider replacing the f-n-r switch with a heavy duty 36v one. Its a good running cart.

Conversion kit will do away with the v glide and replace with an electronic pedal.
