battery/charger
ok, i have bought a 1991 ezgo marathon. it looks like the cart has 3 everstart 24V DC deep cycle marine batteries in it, and it came with the stock 36V ezgo charger. i know its supposed to be a 36V cart with 6 - 6V batteries.It all seams to work, but i dont know if it was converted right or should even work. the battery charger seams to work but takes for ever to charge and i would say the charge lasts a decent amount of time. my question is what should i check to make sure it is safe to use in this configuration. or should i return it to stock, and is it gonna cost a fortune to fix so it works right.can i just change out the battery charger is also a question i have.

Are you sure those are each 24VDC batteries?... That would be 72v on the pack.
I'd bet those are 12volt batteries, giving you a 36volt pack. You could check with a DVOM to be sure. I would not have used 12v batteries to make the pack, but you bought it that way. So I'd run it until it doesn't fit your needs. Six, 6v batteries will get you more distance than your three 12v batteries. |

ok, after further looking, the group number of the battery is 24DC, not 24V batteries. so it looks like 3 12V batteries, is there a better charger to use since they are marine deep cycle batteries than the stock ezgo charger. cause it seams like it is struggling to charge them.or takes for ever.

the question I would have is.....what do you call taking FOREVER to charge.....and how low is the charge when attempt these FOREVER charges?
AND once they reach full charge and it shuts off.....and you wait 12 hrs for the packs charge to settle.....what is the packs voltage? |

It's a time dial style charger. It takes over night for the charger to run thru a full charge. And it seams like it takes 2 or 3 of those to get a full charge.

That battery only weighs a bit over half as much as a Trojan T-1275 (12V - 150AH) Golf Cart battery (Trojan = 82 lbs Everstart = 44.5 lbs), and AH capacity more or less tracks battery weight, so its AH capacity is probably about 81 AH, while the normal 36V battery is 225AH.
A typical 36V golf cart battery charger might actually be too powerful for those lightweight marine batteries since golf cart chargers are designed for batteries with nearly three times more storage capacity. What Make/Model charger do you have? What voltage is the battery pack reaching during charge? Typically, a 36V charger shuts off when the pack climbs into the 44V to 46V range. |

It is an ego total charge.i think the dial is a 11 or 12 hour charge time.the Guage on it only shows amps. Haven't actually put a meter on the battery pack yet.

That is an automatic charger and it shuts of in the 44V to 46V range.
If the Battery pack doesn't not reach that voltage in 12 hours, the timer shuts it off. The ammeter should be in the 17A to 20A range when it first comes on. |
