Sled swap running in reverse

Recently acquired someone else's half complete project cart. It's a 1984 marathon jacked up. It was originally a gasser. The other guy installed a Kawasaki 440 in it however pair no attention to the rotation of the engine. It runs great in reverse... how hard is it to flip the whole rear end over and move engine? Or can the self engine run backwards?

If you re time the ignition to 0 degrees and use the original starter generator and wiring for the cart it will run forwards and reverse, you could also find a rear axle from a newer 4 cycle ezgo, it will bolt right in place of the original axle and have forward and reverse

I thought about this the other day when contemplating a Club Car swap. It would definitely be interesting. If the cart has leaf springs then it shouldn't be too hard to flip the axle around first giving everything the eyeball to make sure there are no frame members in the way.

I really doubt the motor will run backwards no matter what you do. The signal generator of the ign only works properly when the motor is running it's designed direction. The polarity of the signal magnets would be reversed if running backwards. Now if it happened to have a points ign you would be set !!
