Drive Clutch Removal

I recall asking a question (other site not as cool as this one) regarding removing the drive clutch and the only response I got was us an impact wrench.

Well I don't have one or a large air compressor to properly run one. So I drove my cart without the benefit of the tuned drive clutch spring that was sitting in a box in my garage.

I'm not very mechanically inclined but I tinker with my cart to try to gain some skill. So for some of you, this might be a no brainer but maybe for some of you out there that are like me this might help.

The problem I was having is that whenever I would try to screw in the clutch puller it would just turn the motor over. With out the benefit of an impact wrench I was taking any and all suggestions.

#1 Use a screw driver to wedge the clutch utilizing the clutch cover bolts

Results: banged up knuckles, one bent screwdriver, one broken screwdriver

#2 Use a ratchet strap to secure the clutch with the axle

Results: easier on the knuckles but still ineffective

*combo of 1 &2 didn't work

Being a true and utter failure I waited until my highly trained brother (that some how took my share of mechanical ability) came to visit.

He had a simpler and much more effective method of removing the clutch.

#3 Tighten the starting belt, Hold the starter with wrench, Screw in Clutch puller.

Results: Five Min of work and an EZGO with torque not known to mortal man.

Something to be learned you can apply to nearly any problem....
If you can't solve the problem from this end go around to the other end and try it again.
