Question 2004 Precedent Slowing Down? - Requesting Advice...

Hello Everyone,

I'm retired and the original owner of a 2004 Precedent. I live on a golf course in Vancouver, WA. and play 18-holes once or twice a week.

I've provided the lubrication and battery maintenance since new. The original batteries were replaced in the summer of 2012 (X13A2CA).

As of late, the cart is noticeably slowing , especially on hills. Is it possible I need new batteries already? I've also noticed the battery light is occasionally coming on during the round.

* I did the speed sensor "push test" and experienced definite resistance.

Are there any other possible problems I should be aware of?

Where should I start?

Thank You,
JD

I believe the batteries would be suspect given their age. They aren't "done" but are getting there...

The first thing to try is to unplug the pack negative cable and leave it disconnected for more than 10 minutes.

That will cause the OBC to loose the information it has saved about your pack and reset.

The OBC will then re-analyze the pack and make adjustments to the charging profile based on the current pack conditions.

After you connect the cable back, plug the charger in and let if finish the charging cycle, keep in mind it will take longer than normal as the pack is being analyzed.

And once you do the things mentioned by Sergio above, hook your DVM up to the pack and lay it on your seat and watch it when you feel the weakness you describe. If it is significantly dropping down, you will know your pack is weakening as Gazoo stated.

You can also check the batteries one at a time to see if just one is the culprit.

For what you are doing, any good cheap digital will fair you well. I have Fluke's, but I have a Harbor Freight cheapie that works great on all my run around stuff.

Here is a very good cheap model for $22... https://www.harborfreight.com/11-fun...ity-61593.html

Well... as it turns out, the pack is definitely on the way out.

What's the best price I should expect to pay for Trojan T-1275's?

I live in the Portland, OR area.

Here are the best prices I could find...

Trojan T-1275 @ $236.26/$945.04

US Battery @ $206/$824

NAPA $750 (4)

Crown (shipped free from Chicago) $196/$784 w/no core charge

That is a little higher then here in my Florida area for Trojans. The red top US Batteries run about $200/ea and I just retired my ten (10) year old (yes, really went 10 years and 1 month) set of red top US's. Trojans and US's are priced almost exactly the same here with Crown's being 3rd. None of the rest matter as we do not use them.
