Default 2015 Club Car Precedent-adding Allied batteries?

I’m considering installing 2 Allied lithium batteries (30ah).

Will I need to bypass the onboard controller to be able to charge it using the Allied charger?

Also, do you guys recommend getting new battery cables? Allied has 6 gauge ones for purchased or should I get something else, 2 gauge?

About 2-weeks ago, I replaced Trojan batteries with bigbattery.com 48v (40ah) BDGR kit (2x48v).

For charging, I am bypassing the onboard controller (the kit came with charger). Everything appears to be working, but honestly, I have the same question about bypassing the OBC.

The original cables I had were 6-gauge, and the kit from bigbattery.com came with 6-gauge, so that is what I am using.
What gauge wires did your CC Precedent originally came with?

Yes you will need to bypass your OBC. Plenty of how-to’s on here with good info depending on the year of your cart.

I have the same setup in my 2008 DS. I “temporarily” used the stock wires, exactly as they were (minus OBC bypass) and made a set of 2awg wires, just because I had a bunch of 2awg laying around. I still haven’t installed the newest cables and they don’t even get remotely the slightest bit of warm. I’m still running stock motor and controller with a speed magnet.

I *will* install the new cables eventually… probably whenever I pull the body for paint to keep it simple. But I’ve had no bad effects using the original 2008 cables, that are still in good condition.

I’m not sure what gauge my 2015 CC Precedent came with…whatever is OEM.

I was told by Allied that I do not have to bypass the OBC to use their charger. Plug and play!

Bypassing the OBC is not required to enable charging, it is required so that the OBC doesn’t shut the cart down due to lack of charging.

The OBC monitors charge, and if you’re charging the battery directly, as would be the case with your Allied setup, the OBC will not see a charge cycle. As a result, it will disable your cart. Bypassing the OBC will stop it being able to shut the cart down.

Cheers
Pat.

Ok. Sounds like bypassing the OBC is recommended even though the supplied charger and batteries will function but it’s just better to do it to avoid any issues.

It's only required if you have one. 2015 Precedent was not produced with an OBC.

Well you could say that if it doesn’t have one then Club Car did the bypassing for you.
