volt gauge
I would like to install a volt gauge on my 90 marathon 2 cycle.What would be the best way to wire it?

Just guessing here but I would wire it off the starter side of the solenoid that runs to the battery. This way it would only work when running. If you need to monitor the voltage when it's not running I would wire it to the switch or put a switch on it and go straight to the battery. I don't see the point in doing this unless you have a hole in the dash and a volt gauge that just happens to fit. Its a 12 volt system charges around 14.5 volts when running, overcharges at 16+ volts when running, not charging if it stays or is below 12 volts when running

My voltmeter is wired to the ign wire from the switch. It shows voltage when the key is on and running. If you wire it to read only while running you are not getting a read on the bat just the charging sys.

Thats what I am planning to do as well...go off the ignition...one more visual que you left the board frying key on so why not...!!

Here is Mine:
got it from Lewis at www.electricalconnection.com Comes on when I turn the radio and stuff on, and it even has a neat photocell that dims the LED's at night. |
