Default Re: Purpose of diodes in new Alltrax SR diagram?

That's a really good point, that I never considered.

If I do go the Alltrax way, would either the 1N5408, or MR754 be fine for that application? They don't specify one.

Thanks!

The MR754 is an old device that is getting discontinued.

The diodes will basically power the main Solenoid as the controller KSI logic current consumption is negligible.

The 1N5408 is rated for 3 continuous amps and over 100 amps peak, so it may work depending on how big your main Solenoid is.

I like the 6A10 (6 amps) as they are cheap and work well.

Thanks Sergio.

Those 6A10 diodes are pretty cheap, so I just ordered some.
Never heard of "MIC" brand before, but they came up in the majority of searches.

scotty,
are these diodes part of your conversion kit. I received my kit but don't remember seeing these. are they required?

Yes,we send suppression diodes with the reversing contactor kits.
Also we describe how and where to install them in the installation instruction.
If you think your kit is missing parts please contact my email.

Normally a diode across a DC coil is to discharge the induced current set up by the collapsing magnetic field when the coil is switched off...the diode is wired in reverse of the polarity of the coil main connections...as the direction of the collapsing field current.. is in reverse of the current going thru the solenoid when activated...Lenzs Law
So when Solenoid is pulled up..current flow is blocked going thru the diode..
also as mentioned diodes are also used for blocking in a DC circuit

Which way are the diodes supposed to be installed? The "Stripe" towards the FnR switch or away?

Suppression diodes are polarity sensitive. The banded end goes toward the positive side.

Yes, thanks for the reply.

I was wondering about the diodes between the FnR switch and the foot switch in the alltrax diagram. Forgive the newbie, does the banded end goes towards the foot switch or FnR switch?
