Default 1996 TXT Overhaul

This thread is sort of a journal for me to keep me motivated through this build.

I started out just needing a cart to play golf. Something reliable and cheap.
Well I have a way of going overboard on everything I do. So here goes nothing.

I found this ugly thing at a local golf cart repair business:

Got the top and rear body panel off:

Gave her a rinse:

Removed accelerator and brake pedals:
That brake pedal pivot bolt ruined my night.

The cart is in surprisingly good condition considering it’s age. I didn’t intend to do a complete tear down, but that changed once I added up what I had invested already.

I will hopefully be taking the frame to the body shop tomorrow to be prepped and painted.

Parts I’ve ordered:

Country Cat:
-Blacked out front cowl decal
-Body rivet kit
-Suntop hardware kit
-Seat back brackets (not sure if they will fit)
-Standard rear leaf springs
-Shock bushing kit
-Newer style steering wheel

Amazon
-Black/Red Seat seat covers
-Windshield
-Black/red floor mat
-Red shock covers (may or may not use these)
-Christmas tree fasteners/plastic rivet kit
-Black lug nuts
-D plug receptacle

Buggies Unlimited
-Black/red 14inch Spider wheels w/ 225/30-14 Mamba street tires
-Standard front leaf springs
-Front/back shocks
-Rear spring bushing kit
-Bagwell liner

Ebay
-Steel battery rack
-Brake shoes
-Rear bumper
-Black plastic access panel (mine was metal?)
-Brake torsion spring

Carts Unlimited
-SR48500
-400amp solenoid
-SW202 kit
-2g cable set
-Voltage reducer
-FN1 on the fly control
-Summit II 650w charger with d plug cord

Shop Ezgo
-Scuff guards
-Rocker panels
-Brake pedal shoulder bolt and bushings
-Flanged steering bearing (mine has slight play)

DIY Golf Carts
-Raptor 7126 high speed motor

Local
-Six 8v US Battery 170ah
-Various tools/paint/lube/etc..

Wish List:
-Doubletake Sentry dash assembly.
I’m waiting to see the color of the seat covers and wheels in person before ordering this. I’m either getting black/red or black/ruby.

Wow. You are going to be very busy over the next few weeks. I just got mine back together.

I hope your rivet kit comes with details of where each rivet goes. I got my kit yesterday and can’t remember what sizes go where. Looks like I’m just gonna have to wing it.

I was hoping it did, I guess I’ll have to try to refer to the manual as much as possible. If all else fails, I’ll just wing it too.

Figured I’d post my way of testing the slack in the steering as a single man:

Default Updated Parts List

I was hoping to edit post #2, but I’m assuming it has a time limit. Anyway, I received a bunch of parts today so I’m going to keep the list updated as they arrive.

I was a little disappointed the rims and the seat covers are pretty different shades of red. Haven’t figured out what exactly I’m going to do about it yet.

I also plan on getting the front of the cart disassembled tonight. The rear end just needs leaf springs and shocks unbolted. The plan is to take the frame, floorboard, footrest and roof struts to get painted tomorrow. I would do it, but I want it done right and I have plenty to do anyway. Will post pictures of progress later tonight.

I forgot to mention that I changed the rear diff fluid last night. I pounded some of the dents out and painted the pan while I had it off. I reinstalled the pan at lunch today. I will be adding fluid to the diff tonight.

Parts I’ve ordered:

jon21588, my cart is nearly the same as your build, you are going to love it!! Congrats on the new ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives’, husbands, girlfriend’s and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
