Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
I am looking for a speed upgrade and currently am in need of new batteries. I am figuring that now is the perfect time to upgrade from 36v to 48v. Will this get me to 20+mph? Also thinking that down the road, I can step up the controller, and later step up the motor. Hopes to get 30+mph... Is that possible? Also, is this possible to do in a 3 step process maybe over a 1 or 2 year period?
step 1. 6 X 8v. batteries and charger.... (or would 4 X 12v. be better???) step 2. bigger controller and hd solenoid step 3. bigger motor... maybe even a 2 stage motor Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Also any prices from site sponsors would be cool too. |

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
6 - 8v would be the best way to go, 8- 6v for longer run time, you will need a new controller, new F/R switch, batteries, and new charger, to start,
here's some packages from one of our sponsors http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html go down the page to ---SERIES CARTS---and you will see packages #101 to #444 ARE you sure your cart is a SERIES cart, your F/R shifter is down by your knee right? |

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
you are going to need a 48v controller to do this. so do 2, 1, 3 and also be sure to upgrade all 13 cables to at least 4ga. and do as rib says, either 8x6 or 6x8. 8x6 should get you longer running time. i wish i had gone this route since i never drive very far, and they all fit inside the cart.

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
Yes, I believe it is a series cart... f/r switch is below knees and cover over controller does NOT have run/tow switch, and there is no sticker on the controller cover. I am curious how to fit 8 batteries under the seat. I added a separate deep cycle battery in front of my left fender to run my radio, head and tail lights, and accessory plug ins, which runs on a separate circuit of course.

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
most put the other 2 batts in the bag well in the back. if you remove yoru 12v battery you can relocate your controller setup and put 1 batt there and the other where your 12v is. other than that there is no way to get 8-6v under the seat. you can do 6-8v very easily.

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
I will be using the cart for golf, so the bagwell can't hold the batteries. will I have less run time going with 6×8 volts rather than 8×6 volts? does anyone know the comparison of 36 volt run time vs 48 volt?

Quote:
6/8v will give about the same run-time as the 6/6v even though they hold less amperage. When you increase voltage you reduce amperage. It almost balances out run-time wise. |

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
Thanks Scottyb! So I'm guessing that in your opinion, converting to a 48v (6×8v) is a no brainer, since its time for new batteries anyway.

Re: Speed upgrade... non-dcs series
it is if you are looking for more speed and power and are willing to replace the following;
Controller Solenoid Charger All Cables F&R switch Cam You will see a seat of the pants difference in power and top end speed. You want to be sure you get everything from some one who can match the components up to fit the intended use of your cart. I have some upgrade combinations listed on my website. |
