Default Just Get Violent Shuttering When Trying to Drive

Hey Brothers,

So for my 2002 Club Car Carryall, it has 4 year old Trojan batteries.

It suddenly started to just only violently shuttering and would not move forward or backward, although it seemed like it was trying.

Batteries were fully charged. Is this indicative of a bad battery?

I did some load testing but the results were inconclusive.

Seems one battery was bad when connected to the whole pack, but then when tested in isolation, it tested fine.

Can someone provide some guidance on this?

Thanks!

I like to hook the multimeter to each battery individually, then floor the accelerator up a hill and see how much each battery drops to determine which one(s) are weak.

Is your carryall a DC or AC motor?

Sounds like a brush issue. Next it stops push it a few feet and try again if it goes pull the motor and check the brushes.

The motor is DC.

But it is a 2002, not 2022 as I originally posted.

I have corrected it.

A bad cable/terminal connection can cause that symptom.

The shuddering would indicate a weak battery but the thing where the cart only moves a few inches sounds like something else.
I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a bad solenoid-- one of the big posts had broken loose from the solenoid housing and was sort of rattling around. The cart would run great for a mile or two, then when the voltage dropped a bit it would just hesitate, move an inch or two, then come back for a while, then quit again. A new solenoid fixed the problem.
Maybe, if you have the patience, you could pull everything off the solenoid, pull everything off the batteries, check every post and connection, and reinstall.

SUCCESS!

So I thoroughly cleaned each terminal and cable connector and used some dielectic grease and all is good now.

The cart has 51 volts in the system and runs strong.

BUT,

I did not take photos of the cable connections before disconnecting everything and so I have issue with the charging port and the headlights not working.

There is a white and a black cable coming from the charging port which is an aftermarket Summit charger with its own port.

The white cable is currently connected to the POS terminal of the first battery and the black cable is loose. Any guidance on how these two cables should be connected?

When I connect the black cable to the NEG terminal of the same battery, it doesn't charge.

Thanks Friends!

Not sure on your club car but the 2 wires from the charger port should go to the pack mains. If you have white on positive put the black on the pack negative and see what you get.

Okay,

By "pack mains" you mean the first battery in the circuit to which the positive red cable comes in from the solenoid?

I tried that I got a "Fault" on the Summit charger.
