Default 2013 EZGO RXV - Increase Speed?

Great forum here. I'm on a couple of high performance street/race car forums so I can appreciate a good group of smart folks!

New to this, just purchased a 2013 RXV.

I'm being told that I need to pay the company I bought the cart from $150 in order for them to "download the speed upgrade" and that the cart needs to have lights and turn signals in order for that to work? I have lights but don't plan on turn signals.

Is this all true?

Appreciate the help to a rookie.

You don't need lights or turn signals.

You need a Curtis handheld programmer and a passkey to get to full freedom mode.

Thanks! Do you think it's reasonable to pay them $150 for them to do the programming? I figured the "light requirement" was bunk.

A small electronic key is plugged into the controller. Beeps twice, as I recall, and speed is unlocked to ~17 mph. Then a hand held diagnostic/programer is plugged in to adjust top speed to 19.6 mph assuming standard 18" tires. They can also adjust acceleration somewhat if you want. The whole thing should take barely a minute or two and they can do it while you wait. $150 is a little high for my area but lots of competition here. They have to buy the limited use electronic keys and the hand held tool.

I should add that the dealers here don't charge at all if you buy the cart from them.

I'm aware. I should have said they don't charge extra or double.

I live in Boise Idaho. They agreed to do it for $100. I'm kinda pissed about it given they told me they would dial it up when I purchased it but then later found out that the later models require that passkey they have to buy from EZGO. I guess I can understand so I told them to order it and they agreed to split the price with me.

I appreciate your offer to help, very much. If they don't come through, I'll reach out to you and maybe we can work something out. Thanks again!!
