Default ez-go 36v PDS problem

I am currently working on a 2001 EZ-GO with a Curtis pds controller that was working fine. Now it will not run in forward it runs in reverse just fine.
i have put it in diagnostic. i get 3 beeps then 4 beeps which i think indicates open field but only in the forward direction i have ohmed out the fields and they read fine.
i am not sure it the field could be open in forward but not in reverse.
so i am leaning towards a bad controller. not sure at this point
any input would be helpful.

Switch it to tow and reverse the black and white field wires on top of the controller. Flip it to run and try it. Should run reverse in forward and forward in reverse. If it now fails to go in reverse I would say the controller has failed.

They left out the word "Circuit" in the error code naming. Should be "Open Field Circuit", which includes the circuitry inside the controller and well as the external parts.

I don't have a schematic for a Curtis 1206MX controller, so I use a generic diagram of an H-bridge that is often used for the a sepex controller's low power output to the field windings. First drawing shows amp flow for Forward and second shows amp flow for Reverse.

Different MOSFETs are used for forward and for reverse so one direction can work and the other one doesn't. Since you get the error code with R selected, the controller is being told to do reverse and is trying to. Therefore the controller is bad.

Replace it with an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS user programmable controller. That'll up the speed to about 24MPH.
