Smile 36V EZ GO Shudders and Won't Go (Sometimes)

I am new to golf carting -- bought one mostly for my kids to ride on around my 2 acres, plus a mostly deserted gravel road next to my house. I've had it for about 3 months, and the last few weeks it sometimes shudders and won't go. Once, charging seemed to make it start back and it ran great for another week or two (for 2 or so chargings). Right now, it just shudders (from under the passenger side at the rear of the vehicle) and won't move. Actually, it will try to move, just a little, then only shudders. It does this in both reverse and forward. The reverse beeper sounds strong when in Reverse. I have tried charging it this time, but no luck as I had before. It still just shudders and kinda sorta tries to moves, as it shudders.

The batteries are 36V, and about 18 months old. Also, one of the posts on one of the batteries broke so that I couldn't attach a lead to it (it was like this when I got it), so I drilled a small hole in the post and attached the lead by using a screw and washer to hold down the lead. Is there any chance I might have messed up that battery by doing that? (It wouldn't work without it -- the guy I bought it from used wire to wrap around what remained of the post and the lead, in order to hold the lead in place -- but the wire melted because of excess heat).

Anyway, any ideas? Thanks!

if you have hubcaps on the rear of the cart takem them off and see if the axle is spinning in the hub or you can put it up on jack stands and hold the brake to see if it is slipping if it is replace the hub it is the weak spot failsafe on the cart

Look here.

Sounds like a battery issue and you're not getting full voltage and could be due to that one post on the battery or bad/corroded/dirty cables/terminals or both.
