Default Replacing rear tail lights for a 1999 ClubCar

Original owner - bought in 1999. Been flawless. Replaced batteries a few times and brakes once.

Wanting to replace the rear tail light assemblies as the bulbs burned out and LED technology is a so much smaller power draw.

When I pulled out the tail lights expecting a + and a - wire (no turn signals - not street legal) I see a third wire attached to the rear of the metal bulb housing. It LOOKS like a second ground as it's only screwed onto a metal mounting post. I went through all the CC manuals I could find and have been unable to determine the use of that wire. Can I just tie it to ground and call it done?

Its attached to the screw on the bottom of the housing with a nut and a ring connector.

The system won't allow me to post a link to a pic.

please fix the HTTPS above for the photo

Thx
Ron

That 3rd wire is in the harness to support brake lights and turn signals. The same harness could be used for with or without kits. For yours, with out the extras it doesn't even come into play. You don't need to even tie it into a ground

believe it or not i needed that wire to go to the white wire on the replacement LEDs or the brake lights would not work. I had to tie the wires together - the LEDs came with 3 wires red/black and white and white was turnsignal only. In this model CC unless that white wire is tied into the existing wiring into what looked like a strange ground - the lights didn't work. Who knew....
