Default muffler - oil pump connection question

I replaced the old swiss cheese muffler on my '82 G1 with a new muffler from Plowman's. I also bought the oil pump connection tube from them. This tube screws into the muffler's input pipe and connects to the oil pump.

Has anyone replace this muffler oil pump connection tube? It is strange. Not only is it closed on the end that is inside the muffler, it fits loosely. Not a sloppy-loose fit, but I can move it back and forth in it's screw-in fitting. Plowman's said that's the way it fits and over time it will fit tighter.

I beleive your talking about the "jet sensor" and as far as know it should screw in tightly into the threads. Closed inside the muffler? Strange, the jet sensor reads back pressure to thell the oil pump how much oil to feed into the muffler. Maybe better call Plowmans agin.

Took my muffler off to burn it out. When doing so I removed the oil pump "Jet Sensor" and noticed a small wire like object sticking out of the small hole in the sensor. Does anyone know if that is supposed to be there, or is it supposed to just be a pin hole in the sensor?

Yes, my oil pump "sensor" has a pin hole in the end that fits into the muffler, with a very small diameter wire sticking out of it. Strange.
The guys at Plowmans said this is what the G1 muffler oil pump connector should look like. I'll see if I can post a picture of it.

The little wire is supposed to be there. It vibrates and bounces up and down to keep the passage clear of carbon.

I love this forum - you guys are very knowledgable about this stuff.

So how does this this tube work? Does pressure from the muffler exhaust enter into this tube through that tiny hole (or act as a venturi and provide suction) to power the oil pump? Inquiring minds want to know!

Pressure enters through tube via the little hole with the wire to the oil pump. The oil pump is powered by the engine from a gear on the clutch. The exhaust pressure from the tube regulates how much oil is pumped.
