Default Drop-in lithium battery for Club Car

Hi,

Just a newbie here. After doing many many hours of research, I am more confused than ever on requirements for swapping in lithium batteries into my stock standard golf Club Car (2015). I am hoping the knowledge within this forum will help steer me in the right direction - whether to change over to lithium or not (currently using original batteries).

I am wanting to use existing controller, motor, etc.

My main concerns re the cart / lithium batteries requirements are:
1. Max Peak current on take-off (I have seen up to 400amps quoted in threads)
2. Max Continuous current (incl acceleration)
3. Max Voltage that the standard controller handles without shutting off (58v ??)

I have received pricing for Chinese batteries with BMS (~ $1600) with the specs below:

Battery Type Lifepo4
Nominal Voltage 51.2V
Nominal Capacity 100Ah
Energy 5.12KWh
Limited Charge Voltage 58.4±0.2V
Floating Charge Voltage 55.2±0.2V
Discharge Cut-off Voltage 40.0V
Standard Charge Current 30A
Max. Continuous Discharge Current 100A
Pulse Discharge Current (<3s) 300A
Cycle Life > 2000 cycles

I am in Australia, without access to Leaf, Volt batteries, so therefore the Chinese LiFePo4 route.

Would the above battery be suitable for a changeover and address my main converns? As the battery weight will drop up 200lb, does that reduce the Peak Discharge Requirement (on take off) significantly that the quoted 300Amp be sufficient?

Appreciate any advice

thanks
Wayne

Those LiFeMnPO4 batteries are pretty amazing. That's the setup I am looking to swap into my 07 Precedent soon. I'm not sure about the stock controller and the voltage increase though.

I have a friend that works with several power, security, satellite, etc companies that are using those now. He's done several generator replacements on RV's as well where the LiFeMnPO4 Prismatic batteries are being used.

I was debating to go with 100 or 150 Ah.

The pricing they give you for that setup, what BMS is it using?

I have several packs on stock Club Car Curtis controllers at 58V. Had no issues with them. You won't exceed the 300A for >3sec even if you had an XCT400 unless you put it against a wall and hold the pedal down. With a Leaf 120AH pack you lose 270# of weight.

Attached is a pic of an install in a 2015 Precedent with 7 module pack w/ Zeva BMS16 (from down under), DC-DC conv, charger and controller relocated from the back side of the control panel plate. the harness relocates without cutting any wires. Tow sw stays on the plate. If you have access to aluminum sheets (.090) and/or fab shop, I can send you my drawing so you can make the plates down under.

Always "Go with more" (except for bikini's) as long as the price increase is reasonable.

MHO
