Re: Type Of Engine Oil Recommended
On a new engine I would break in with a good quality 10w30 motor oil. After break in I would change to a full synthetic oil.

Re: Type Of Engine Oil Recommended
I have been told that the synthetic is such good friction protection that the engine will not break in

Re: Type Of Engine Oil Recommended
We all experienced that when the little cummings diesels came out in the pickups ... SOme guys had to switch back to standard oil to get broken in at 30 -40,000 miles....there is a significant power and mileage gain after the breakin point....

Re: Type Of Engine Oil Recommended
I just looked in the engine owner's manual that came with the 23 Vanny kit I just got for my dad's cart... Briggs primary recommendation is 5W-30 Synthetic, dino oil only if synthetic is not available.. No mention of not using synthetic for break-in.. I've been running Mobil 1 5W-30 in my 23 Vanny since day one, with no break-in issues at all..

Re: Type Of Engine Oil Recommended
"Dino for break in" was back when Synth wouldn't allow the rings to seat propoerly.....Not so anymore, as Synth additives have changed.....I've broken in everything from lawnmower to my Suzuki 1250 with Sythn from the get-go.....never a problem...just my 2 cents.....
