Conversion ?????
I have been reading about the conversions as advised. Unfortunately for me each one I read are electric conversions. Anybody save me some time and point me to a gas conversion? I have a G-8. The drive system is what I am most interested in. I have two clone conversions, big block briggs and one snowmobile engine one under my belt. I would like to eliminate the belt drive all together. Maybe get a sproket to mount on the secondary shaft to the tranny? Looking to make just a powerful low end pulling work cart. Got a line on an old one lunger yamaha 500 enduro engine that runs great!!! My buddy had one in high school and you could pull a tree down with it!!!

Re: Conversion ?????
Excellent engine for the job....all torque ! I used a bike engine and tried a jackshaft arrangement. Gave up on that and went live axle. Only drawback is solid drive posi-traction.

Re: Conversion ?????
If you know a machinist that can make a flange, you can adapt it to the input-shaft where the motor went on the axle, and make a sprocket-hub there,or just go Live-axle and be done with it.The benefit of the belt-drive is the variable ratios it offers, but since your motor has a trans, you have it covered. The only issue I see,is that the gearing will need some experimenting, since a 500 enduro is about 3 times lighter than a cart.

Re: Conversion ?????
When you say " live axle " do you mean remove the golf cart tranny and just mount a sproket on an axle? If thats right what did you use for an axle?

Re: Conversion ?????
That's it. Solid axle with a hub & sprocket. Found axle, wheel hubs and disc break kit at BMI Carts. Sprocket hub and sprocket at tractor supply. Some pics in the thread on "450 Twin...." Reverse is a problem but when I used the CC OEM Transaxle I quickly figured out that I needed to spin the rear input at above ~6500 RMP to get speed I wanted out of cart. Didn't take long for the input shaft seal to start weeping due to heat.

Re: Conversion ?????
What size axle did you buy? Can you give me a list of the equipment you used?

Re: Conversion ?????
Sure. I'll dig out the part numbers and get them to you. I used the 1.0" solid axle. Did you look through the thread I mentioned. May give you some ideas.

Re: Conversion ?????
The belt drive will give both low end grunt and speed
for the life of me I can think of no good reason to give up reverse and the versatility of a CVT system. |

Re: Conversion ?????
DOOmsman makes a good point. A Variable clutch does solve the issue if you can make one fit the bike engine.
