Today I finished building better shift linkage and we took it out. It goes really really slow in first and second but third is ok. I will need to order a jack shaft to gear it up but it is still fun and usable. The reverse and electric start are great. I might try changing the drive sprocket from a 14 tooth to like a 19 tooth but I don't think that's going to be enough I read on a thread that the rear end has a 12.1 ratio so I'm pretty sure I will need a jack shaft with like a 8 tooth on one end and a 20 tooth on the other to get it out of rock crawler mode. It was kind of cool to drive it up onto a stump in first and all that torque and control. My camera is dead but I will get some pics as soon as I can.

This weekend I built a new intake manifold out of steel instead of rubber radiator hose and it runs a lot better. I also added a light so I can drive at night. It snowed 9 inches here so it was just in time I fell a few dead snags and pulled the wood trailer through the snow no problem. I ordered a reduction sprocket set 42t to 9t I figure I can drive the 9T and then run the 42t to 14t on the rear end. I hope its not to much the other way I guess I can always weld a larger sprocket to the 9T if its too much.

King, 1 tooth on the drive equals 10 on the driven. I only dropped 2 teeth on my drive on the bike engine cart. A really small tooth drive may give you chain bind.

Thanks Rifter I found a 19 tooth sprocket I think will fit for the drive I might have to build a tensioner to keep it from rubbing the case but I think I will try that first before I try a jack shaft. After running the cart the last few weeks in snow pulling wood I don't think I need to gear it up as much as I thought.

I got time this weekend to pull the old motor armature shaft and cut the 14 tooth sprocket I welded on originally. I put it on my lathe and was able to turn it down to 1 inch so I could put a 12 tooth sprocket on. I got lazy and just used a grinder to make the keyway instead of milling it. It definetly geared it up but the 18 tooth drive sprocket came today so I will see if I can get that to work this weekend.

Ha! Never thought of using a grinder to make the keyway! That's good stuff! I'll have to remember that for next time...

Ya I kind of fill bad about it now. I was tired and didnt feel like mounting the clamp back on my mill I had taken it off to hold another part while I was welding it. Oh well its done now. I will try to control myself and take my time when I build the chain tensioner for the 18 tooth drive sprocket mod this weekend.
