The cable that is required supports a 3.3v UART signal.

The additional 12% torque loss would actually result in a lowered top speed with oversized tires, as compared with smaller tires, where torque is preserved. With 18" stock tires, a stock 235 Amp Curtis controlled RXV can be reprogrammed to reach 26-27 MPH. With 20.5" tires, it can reach about 32 MPH in most cases. Published tire sizes are approximate, not exact. Dealers in my area charge $100 to use their passkey on a cart. I enable Freedom mode with the click of a mouse!

The 1206AC-5201 controller in your RXV was designed to turn tires up to 20.5" tall. Your 23" tires are too tall for that controller to turn and survive long term. Any adjustments to increase performance will hasten its demise. This is why I do not do performance reprogrammings on any Curtis stock 235 Amp RXV or 250 Amp TXT48 controllers that are to be used with 23" tires.

For RXVs, it requires a Curtis 350 Amp upgrade controller. For a TXT48, it requires a 500 Amp Alltrax controller, to properly drive 23" tires... turned down to 400 Amps to drive the stock motor until it fails from the abuse. Then turned up to 500 Amps to drive an aftermarket motor with enough torque to survive!

I applaud your desire to learn, I just hope that you will spend some time learning the engineering that helps you to learn the limitations of the technology that is used in the golf carts that we want to modify to be more than what they were designed to be. Some have more potential designed in than others. The RXV is a good choice due to some of the choices made in the design.

Bob, I finally got the interface cable working, yay! However, I am being cautious and trying to avoid doing anything that would damage the device or reduce the safety of the cart. That said, I found it in 'profile 2', Freedom mode Off, with a top speed setting of 14.5 mph; despite it going ~25 on 19" tires. Switching to profile 5, 'freedom' actually slows it to 22. I tweaked the speed to rpm setting from 481 to 500 (less than 5%) just to see what would happen and it goes 27 mph.

What are the limits and risks of this change? How fast can the stoke motor spin and are there other settings that would be more appropriate instead?

Thanks

-Eric

Hello,

I have a Curtis 1228-2701 controller from a forklift with the EEPROM fault error (4/3 LED flashes). DS2003 IC and 93LC86 EEPROM were both faulty. I've replaced the EEPROM with a new one and DS2003 with ULN2003, but I can't access the controller using PC Programming station software. It stuck in reading and nothing happens. Can anyone pass me the EEPROM dump of a 1228 controller?

Hello how much would you charge to make one for me or if you don't mind sharing your schematics and parts so that I can build one like this. thanks

I posted this earlier but it should help.

Look at pages 114, 120 and 121 of this thread.. If you don’t want to make the ATX connection just buy an extension and cut the end off.

Hello,

following the recovery of a broken pallet truck, I suspect that the curtis 1228 unit that was replaced does not have the correct throttle settings.
I have to modify it with the curtis 1413 software but I can't get it. do you know where to find it?

thank you
