Re: Long travel rear for a sparky?
Seems like it would actually be simpler than a gas cuz the batteries stay up with the cart and the motor is bolted to the differential...... no engine cradle to deal with

Re: Long travel rear for a sparky?
Some ideas about this, think about the weight of two people climbing on the back of a cart
180 lb each 360 lbs. cart maybe sits empty around 500 lbs on rear tires. Thats 72% increase. Same two peeps in back seat of a car or truck at 2000 lbs thats 9%. On the cart thats over and behind the rear axle in the truck its more forward. It will be hard to spring the rear of a cart with out some very good engineering and progresive rate springs. Just thinnen. |

Re: Long travel rear for a sparky?
On the elec carts the batt are somewhat a part of the frame. On a gas the the only weight is the rear part of the frame and the passengers the engine does not put any weight on the suspension. on the elec the batteries, passengers and frame are all part of the weight.
The only you could do it is if you made a separate crate for the batts that were connected like the gas carts are. |

Re: Long travel rear for a sparky?
I think it would not be a good idea to attempt this. With the weight of the batteries, the coils would have to be so stiff, that leaf springs would almost be the better idea. Radical is right, to make it work properly, the battery tray would need to be part of the "swing arm" section to aid in getting the dead weight off of the entire system.
Draw it up and build it - I have yet to see someone attempt it - you might end up with a great setup |
