Re: Fast maybe?
Zip tie the governor spring first - on stock tires that should get you to 18-19ish mph.

Re: Fast maybe?
Zip-tying the governor will raise your top speed significantly. The larger tire diameter will also give your top speed a boost (but you'll lose a bit on the low end), You don't have to worry about going over 30mph. The most speed you're likely to get is likely 25mph max. Your motor is only rated at 9hp. My motor in my '87 is an 8hp motor and it'll run 21-22mph on flat pavement. I also have a 6" lift and am running 22.5" tires.

Re: Fast maybe?
if you zip tie it.... leave the govnor on, or get a tach.... valves like to float around 4k. governor kicks in around 3600 if I recall right!
and we didn't tell you to zip tie it! but I have a set of 22s on a carryall pushing 23 mph per the gps, with a zip tie..... |

Re: Fast maybe?
Not trying to sound like a total dumb a$$ and i am also pretty mechanically inclined, but when you say "zip tie" the spring..... how are you doing it or "what do you mean" ? I have an 06ds Gasser. This is my second cart and i have never messed around with speeding them up. I have only done my normal maintnance. I am new to this forum"just found it" but after looking around on here i can see that there is a lot of knowledge to be had and from what i can tell, some super nice people that are willing to help! Thanks!

My own preferred way is to stick the cart in maintenance mode (pull slightly out and rotate the yellow cam on the back of the FNR 180°) and turn the key on and leave the cart in neutral - it should now rev and not move. Shove the pedal to the floor, hear how it revs then the governor backs it down to a constant speed? Zip tie the spring so that it revs and backs down only a very little, this may take a few times of adjustmenting he zip tie. When satisfied that it revs, then backs down only a hair or stays exactly revved, you're done. Put the cart out of maintenance mode, throw the seat back on, and take a drive to test out your new top speed! SPECIAL NOTE: This is a modification done at your own risk, doing it wrong can result in a blown engine. Running this modification will ultimately decrease engine life (duh) and will rapidly do so if you abuse the cart. Consider safety of all others when using this cart, and when children, elderly people, pets, and your drunk buddies are driving the cart. Serious injuries can occur, and a direct link has been found between the increased speed of a golf cart and amount of beverages spilled and non-moving objects collided with. |
