Default Loose steering, or not!

I just purchased my first cart last month. 97 ezgo txt. Have had a great time taking it apart to rebuild. I am looking at the ball joint at the end of the rack rod. When I turn the steering wheel, there is alot of "slop" in that joint. Is that normal? Do I need to replace with a repair kit?
