Re: Charging Problem
Where is your charger tied in to the batteries?
What are the red & black clips used for that is connected to the one battery? What ever it is, it's only seeing 6 volts. |

Re: Charging Problem
First things first! You need the corrct charger which is one as I posted. The second thing is the charger you have sitting in the cart get it out. It's a club car charger that want do you any good.
You will have to charge all 6 batteries with the system you have hooked up in the picture. You need a charger! |

Re: Charging Problem
Wrong charger (but still might work)
Get the charger out of the cart. Too much acid in there. The alligator clamps on that charger are inadequate for the application. Check the charger for a circuit breaker on the case. I hate it when shops rig stuff like this. BTW: Great catch rusty! |

Re: Charging Problem
Yes the charger can be made to work. You will need the correct end for it and it will need to be watched because it want turn off by it's self.
What kind of end is on the C/C charger? Can you post a pic of it also? |

Re: Charging Problem
OK, on closer inspection of the first photo it is obvious that the red and black clamps are not part of the charger, but lead out of the bay towards the back of the cart. I have no idea what they are connected to. My bad.
Actually, I'm not sure the charger is even hooked up to ANYTHING, which would explain why it doesn't turn on, and why your batteries are dieing. |

Re: Charging Problem
The clamps look like a battery tender setup. They have the quick dissconnect on them.

Re: Charging Problem
okay I think I have confused everyone including myself...sorry! I am posting new pictures that maybe can help clarify my issues??? The first set of photos that I sent did include something I was trying....I hooked up a small 6volt battery charger and was attempting to charge each individual battery...probably not smart. Anyways I've disconnected all of that. It looks like the charger that is in the cart (I was told this cart has an "onboard" charger...didn't realize it needed to come out until reading your posts) has wires that are directly spliced into wire that goes into the relay box....obvisously this isn't right. Any advise on what needs to be done at this point? It sounds like I need to purchase a new PowerWise 36v battery charger...but what about connecting it? Yes, just call me sucker for purchasing this golf cart that is in "perfect working condition"...guess they saw me coming!

Re: Charging Problem
You can use the 6 volt charger to charge the batteries if you don't entend on riding it for a weeK or so!! You need to find out if the charger is working which is a simple thing to do. Plug it in and with your voltmeter see what the six batteries say...something like 39 40 volts means it's working.
The charger you have isn't a on boad charger it's not made for the abuse it will see in the cart. You need to get it out and if it is working check to see if it cuts off when fully charged, C/C chargers had to have the OBC on the cart to tell it to stop. |
