Default 01 Ez-go PDS 3/2 Beep code, Solenoid good

Hi guys. This is my first post in your wonderful forum, but I have spent many hours researching previous post. Sorry if I repeat any previously asked questions, but I am at a loss, so here we go.

I have a 2001 Ez-go PDS, stock everything except I added a light kit and this speed chip harness:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZGO-Speed-C...item51bc782e53

Cart was running great, stopped it the other day, got back on and moves very slowly. Got a 3-2. beep code for welded solenoid. Replaced solenoid. No change.

Performed diagnostic test from here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...noid-code.html

Get full voltage at every point except J1 post 6 (solenoid -) where I get 25v .

Here is the really confusing part. If I remove the speed chip harness, and hook the tow/run back directly to the controller, I get nothing. No solenoid voltage, no reverse buzzer, nothing. Hook the harness back up, cart runs slow until I quickly flip the key switch off and on, then it runs perfectly.

I'm thinking bad controller, but why will the cart only get voltage if the aftermarket speed chip harness is hooked up? Any info or ideas will be appreciated. Thank you guys so much for your time and the information you provide to us amateur cart modders!

If you are getting the full battery pack voltage on J1 Pins 4 & 5 and the solenoid isn't bad, the controller is bad.

There was a typo in the test procedure I posted. Full pack voltage should be on J1 Pin-7 rather than J1 Pin-6. You might get full pack voltage on Pin-6, but it could be lower since the voltage from Pin-7 is going through the solenoid coil.

As I expected. Thanks for the info! What's you opinion on a replacement controller? I want to keep the same basic configuration but it seems that the Alltrax dcx400 with a HD solenoid and 2ga cables would be a good solution. Opinion?

Thanks again for the reply.

Another question. In the short term, is running it like it is harmful to anything else? Like I said, as long as I flip the switch on and off it runs perfectly until the solenoid opens again.

A DCX400 in a PDS is a great combination, with a 36V battery pack, it'll do about 24MPH on stock height tires. (You can tone it down if you want, the DCX400 is user programmable.)

My first upgrade was 2Ga high current cables. Be sure to replace all 10 of them.
My second was a DCX400 and Super-Duty solenoid. I went with the Super-Duty (400A with a 48V coil) because I didn't know what voltage battery pack I would end up with and it works with at 36V, 42V and 48V, while the Heavy Duty (200A) is voltage specific and would have had to been replaced if I changed pack voltage.

Other than a long walk home if it fails when you are out and about, no other damage is likely.
