Default loss of speed, fast-really slow -fast

I will be going along fine, for a reason, which I do not understand, speed drops to about 1mph, it will work back up to almost normal speed over time. This happens several times on an outing. First step in supping up the cart for grand kids.

First we'll need to identify exactly which cart and electrical system we are working with. Can you provide us with the vehicle serial number? If you're wanting to upgrade the cart, that's great. But if there's an underlying issue that needs to be fixed, we need to take care of that before we upgrade anything else. We'll walk you through it step by step. Let's start with the serial number.

Sounds like you may have a bad speed sensor or MCOR. Sounds more like a speed sensor issue though. Read this thread and perform the test and let me know what you find....

Did the run away test, pushed in gear and the alarm sounded(who knew). Also it is a black motor. Hey thank you for being a really great guy.

It sounds as if the speed sensor is working, but it's hard to say for sure since you've got an intermittent problem. If you did the test while the sensor was working, it would naturally pass the test. Try this.... Go out and drive it. Wait until it slows down to a crawl and switch the gear selector into neutral. If the cart slows itself down it means the sensor is working. If it continues to coast, the sensor is not working.

OK Tahoe, did the test going to the dump site, cart did lose speed, but not as slow when going for a longer period of time, put it in neutral and it did slow down to stop and alarm sounded. Cart ran well, I did clean all connections a while ago, had this cart for seven yrs. the speed does not stay consistent?

If the speed doesn't stay consistent you've more than likely got an MCOR issue. The MCOR4 conversion kit is the correct replacement part number for your cart. Part number AM293101.
