2003 36v electric club car v glide/resistors getting very hot
I have a 2003 36v electric club car that keeps melting the v glide at top speed, its the model that has one solenoid and five resistor coils. I have load test all batteries, replaced all cables, clean and reconnected all resistor coils, adjusted wiper arm, verified wiring is correct, but its still getting very hot at top speed. Its seems like the #5 resistor(thickness resistor) coil is getting the hottest. When I jack the cart up and test run it at top speed it doesn't get hot but when we I drive it gets hot very quick. Any idea what can be causing it to get hot?

Re: 2003 36v electric club car v glide/resistors getting very hot
When my cart was the 36 volt set up like you have, the gang here told me that the resistor coils would & should get hot enough to FRY bacon and that meant they were good. The resistor coils getting hot should not be the problem and is normal. You say its melting your v-glide, that is a problem.
I'm no expert on this and maybe ScottyB and the others will jump in, but things like those parts getting too hot is normally caused by bad connections. The power is having to push hard through the wires and they melt. Could also be that there is just too much of a load on the cart and that causes things to get too hot as well. My cart started melting the V-Glide often as it got older and we were using it the same as we always had, no real big change in what we were doing. Having the tires off the ground creates no load and that is why things stay cooler. BTW, its not recommended to run with wheels off the ground as there have been reports of the motors spinning so fast they blow apart. Wish I had more help for you, but changing to a solid state set up is AWESOME and you won't regret it!! |

I didn't think that the resistors should be getting hot when the that cart is at top speed and using full motor voltage?
